On Tuesday, Ryan Wyatt, YouTube’s head of gaming, announced that he would be leaving the video-sharing platform in February. Thanks in part to his leadership, YouTube Gaming registers over 250 million daily users with hundreds of billions of views every year. Wyatt attributed his resignation to his passion for blockchain and Web 3.0 development. H will soon join Polygon Studios as CEO.
Polygon Studios are gaming and non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, part of the Ethereum (ETH) Layer 2 Scaling Network (MATIC) of the same name. Polygon plans to commit $100 million to projects led by its sister studio, which debuted last July. The firm’s goals are to develop decentralized games; to attract blockchain enthusiasts to its NFT token ecosystem; and to make Polygon a competent blockchain for the transition to Web 3.0. Regarding his new role, Wyatt said:
“I will focus on expanding the developer ecosystem through investment, marketing, and developer support, and bridging the gap between Web 2.0 and 3.0. I will lead the Polygon Studios organization across games, entertainment, fashion, news, sports, and more.”
It’s bittersweet news that I’m leaving @YouTube. I have loved every minute of my time here, but it’s time for my next endeavor. I am happy to announce that I will be joining @0xPolygon ($MATIC) as the CEO of Polygon Studios. Thanks for the memories!❤️ pic.twitter.com/VhQxpqDbFO — Ryan Wyatt (fwiz.eth) (@Fwiz) January 25, 2022
In his resignation letter, Wyatt described fond memories of his first day at Google headquarters in Mountain View, California in 2014. He also credited CEO Susan Wojcicki and CMO Robert Kinkle for hiring him eight years ago. Meanwhile, Polygon Studios warmly welcomed Wyatt in his new role.
