British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has unveiled a plan for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country, for which the government plans to allocate £100 million ($125 million).
With £100 million for our AI Taskforce, we are dedicating more funding to AI safety than any other country in the world.
We’ll also work with @DeepMind, @OpenAI and @anthropic who will give us early or priority access to models for research and safety purposes. pic.twitter.com/SKypEisfXX

As part of the initiative, the authorities will establish a scholarship fund and a related task force of experts. According to the Prime Minister’s vision, thanks to funding, the United Kingdom can become the center of the AI industry.
The main directions will be developments in agriculture and health care.
A combination of research, education and international collaboration is at the heart of the development of the UK’s technology landscape, says Sunak.
He stated that he understands the concerns about the risks of AI technologies. To address this issue, Sunak emphasized his commitment to security research. He also reported on the preparation of a thematic international summit.
According to the Prime Minister’s plan, the government will partner with industry giants Google DeepMind, OpenAI and Anthropic. The companies have pledged to provide the UK government with early access to their AI models for research.
Earlier, Sunak announced his intention to raise the topic of AI risks at the G7 summit in Hiroshima. According to him, artificial intelligence can bring benefits and change society.
Recall that in May, the UK Competition and Markets Authority initiated an investigation into the artificial intelligence industry.
In April, Sunak announced a £100 million grant to stimulate the development of “sovereign AI”.
