The Dawn Project organization announced Twitter’s refusal to promote a publication criticizing Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) unmanned driving system. Writes about it The Verge.
In an email screenshot provided by the group, social media moderators claim the tweet violates a ban on advertising “political” content.

The retraction of the post is the latest in a series of developments in a strange, long-running feud between billionaire Elon Musk and The Dawn Project head Dan O’Dowd.
In August, Tesla sent the organization a letter calling for the removal of a video where the company’s robotic car on autopilot knocks down mannequins the size of children. The video no longer appears on the group’s YouTube page.
The Dawn Project post with a full-page ad in The New York Times still exists.
The group’s statements also raise questions about Twitter’s advertising policy following Musk’s purchase of the company.
O’Dowd called the refusal to promote the organization’s post “an alarming sign”.
“The push to ban ads for content critical of Musk’s Full Self-Driving software raises serious questions about his commitment to free speech,” he said.
Twitter did not respond to a request for comment. Perhaps this is due to the mass layoffs of Musk’s employees, which also affected the public relations department.
The support page says:
“Twitter globally bans the promotion of political content. We made this decision based on our belief that reach like this should be earned, not bought.”
Earlier this year, O’Dowd ran an unsuccessful US Senate campaign over Tesla. He sharply criticized FSD and stated that the results of his tests revealed critical flaws in the technology.
Also in January, the head of The Dawn Project ran an ad denouncing FSD in The New York Times. He offered $10,000 to the first person to name “another commercial product from a global corporation that crashes every eight minutes.”
Tesla fans claim that O’Dowd runs Green Hills Software, which has partnerships with some rival automakers including GM, BMW and Ford. According to them, the billionaire is financially interested in discrediting the company owned by Musk.
The head of Tesla, on the other hand, reacted to The Dawn Project with a tweet that “no one died using FSD.” He also called Green Hills Software “a pile of garbage.”
Recall that in August, a Tesla fan suggested testing the Full Self-Driving autonomous driving system on children. The Verge journalist asked not to do this.
