The US government will seek advice from the public on its plans to use AI in government agencies. About it announced Office of Management and Budget under the US Presidential Administration.
“AI is one of the most powerful technologies of our time, but in order to take advantage of the opportunities it provides, we must first reduce the risks associated with it,” the department said.
According to the statement, US President Joe Biden has mandated “putting people at the center” of innovation while protecting society and the economy.
The governance policy for artificial intelligence will be published in the summer. The public will have an opportunity to discuss the document before the authorities take action.
It is expected that as a result, government agencies will be able to “responsibly use AI to advance missions and strengthen the ability to serve Americans fairly.”
The administration also said it will work with leading AI developers including Anthropic, Google, Hugging Face, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI and Stability AI. The projects of these companies are also subject to public evaluation, the ministry said.
Recall that in May, US Vice President Kamala Harris held a meeting with the heads of technology corporations, where they discussed the risks associated with AI.
During the event, the administration announced $140 million in funding to launch seven new AI research institutes.
In April, Biden called concerns about artificial intelligence premature.
