This week, the first meeting of the working group that develops the regulation of the circulation of cryptocurrencies in the Russian Federation took place. This was announced by the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma and the head of the group Alexei Gordeev, writes “Prime”…

The meeting, held on Tuesday, December 21, was attended by representatives of the Central Bank, various ministries and departments.

According to Gordeev, first of all, it is necessary to develop a conceptual apparatus. This will be done by an expert council under the working group.

Indefibank CEO Sergei Mendeleev, citing his own sources, said that at a meeting on Tuesday, a final decision was made to ban cryptocurrencies. Going forward, lawmakers will determine how tough the restrictions will be, he added. This is probably the same meeting.

The next stage of the discussion will take place in February 2022, Gordeev noted.

Earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, Anatoly Aksakov, said that the Russian authorities are discussing various options for regulating the bitcoin industry – from a complete ban on the ownership and purchase of cryptoassets to the legalization of bitcoin exchanges.

The media, citing sources close to the Central Bank, reported that the regulator intends to prohibit investments in cryptocurrencies due to risks of financial stability.

The Bank of Russia promised to disclose its position in detail in a separate report, but stressed that they see no place for cryptocurrencies in the Russian financial market.
