The Bedrock activation was supported by the owners of the OP utility token.
During the upgrade, the network will be unavailable for two to four hours. Deposits and withdrawals will not be possible.
“Bedrock will enhance the security and resilience of the Optimism bridge to the Ethereum mainnet. The upgrade is designed with the maximum possible minimum difference with the blockchain of the second largest cryptocurrency by capitalization. Ethereum equivalence + minimized complexity = less room for error, easier for ecosystem developers to contribute”, the team explained.
Bedrock is expected to cut fees by 47%.
Node operators will be required to migrate to the new software.
“Bedrock will make it easy to contribute to a variety of clients (Magi by Andreessen Horowitz + op-erigon by testinprod.io are the first proof of this)”, the developers said.
The update will provide the foundation for Super Chains, allowing more chains like Coinbase’s Base to be built.
According to DeFi Llama, TVL Optimism is $865.3 million, behind rival Arbitrum ($2.39 billion).
Recall that the team announced Bedrock in February 2023.
