The European Commission will update rules requiring companies like Meta, Twitter and Google to remove deepfakes, misinformation and fake accounts. Writes about it Reuters.

On June 16, 2022, the European Commission plans to present an updated code to combat disinformation. According to the document, tech giants must develop tools to verify information and collaborate with fact-checking organizations.

Firms will be required to report on remote bots, the number of moderators in each country, as well as artificial intelligence systems used to combat fakes.

According to media reports, more than 30 companies are going to sign the updated version of the code, including Meta, Twitter, Google, Microsoft and TikTok. They will be obliged to publish reports on each individual EU country, and not pan-European or world statistics.

For violation of the rules, companies can face a fine of up to 6% of the annual turnover.

Recall that in April the EU agreed on the Digital Services Law, which increases the responsibility of tech giants in matters of recommender algorithms and targeted advertising.

In the same month, Elon Musk supported the project on the regulation of social networks.
