- This is the second logo of the king of cryptocurrencies
- And it has an interesting history.
Today the famous BTC symbol turns 13 years old. Its history, like the fate of the cryptocurrency itself, is one of evolution, renewal, collaboration, and sometimes even fierce debate.
First logo
The earliest version of the logo was designed by Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009. It featured the letters “BC” inscribed on a gold coin.

This caused a lot of discussion on the legendary BitcoinTalk forum. And even helped to come up with another important symbol. Several users have suggested adding a “T” between “B” and “C” to the cryptocurrency symbol. This is how BTC was born – the bitcoin stock ticker, which works to this day.

Satoshi continued to experiment with the logo. A year later, he updated the original picture, leaving only the “B” and adding two vertical strokes.

The logo was liked by Bitcoin Talk users. However, some objected that the new ‘B’ looked too much like the Thai baht symbol (‘B’ with a single vertical bar) and feared that it might cause confusion.

But it was not Satoshi who managed to bring the symbol to the ideal, but an anonymous user with the nickname “bitboy”. In November, he proposed a layout that forever changed the visual heritage of bitcoin.
The message came out very short and, one might say, modest:
“Hey guys, just stopped by to say hello and share with you some of the work I have done. I hope they are helpful”

Bitboy turned Satoshi’s original concept into a crisp logo on an orange background. It turned out to be more branded than just a gold coin. And now it is this layout that symbolizes the main currency of freedom – Bitcoin.
