Chinese tech giant Tencent has launched a tool to generate digital twins of people as part of its cloud platform. Writes about it The Register.
The system is powered by Tencent Cloud TI, a machine learning platform that offers more than ten artificial intelligence algorithms.
To generate a high-definition avatar, the user needs to upload a three-minute live video and 100 spoken sentences. The digital twin synthesis process will take about 24 hours.
Users can generate both full-length and waist-length avatars.
Bots support English and Chinese. According to the company, the digital clones eschew the flat intonation and single speech rhythm of traditional acoustic models.
In total, Tencent offers five styles for digital people:
- 3D realistic;
- 3D semi-realistic;
- 3D cartoon;
- 2D real person;
- 2D cartoon.
Custom Q&A can be created for the digital person, turning them into a kind of deepfake chatbot.
The cost of the service is $145. Creations can be used for placement in commercials. In addition, digital twins can act as doctors, lawyers and other professionals.
According to project general manager Chen Lei, the tech giant hopes to build an automated “AI+ digital intelligent human factory.”
Recall that in February, researchers found that the Chinese authorities used AI-generated TV presenters to spread propaganda.
In January, Chinese regulators banned the creation of deepfakes without the permission of the subject or to the detriment of national interests.
