Steve Wozniak warned about “terrible mistakes” ChatGPT

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak advised caution about ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI. He stated this on the air of the TV channel CNBC.

According to him, the chatbot is “pretty impressive” and “useful for people.” However, it carries a number of serious problems.

“The trouble is that he does us good, but he can make terrible mistakes, not knowing what humanity is,” Wozniak warned.

He also drew a parallel with concerns about artificial intelligence technologies in self-driving cars. Wozniak added that for now, AI cannot replace drivers.

“It’s like you’re driving a car and you know what other cars might be doing right now because you know people,” he said.

ChatGPT has gained wide popularity recently. In just two months after the launch, the service attracted 100 million active users.

The public recognition of the chatbot was ensured by its ability to answer questions, maintain dialogue, compose poetry and write program code.

In January, the media reported on Microsoft’s plans to invest $10 billion in OpenAI. Less than two weeks later, the parties officially announced a “multi-billion dollar multi-year” partnership.

The two companies have maintained a close working relationship for several years. In 2020, Microsoft announced making a deal with a startup to exclusively license their GPT-3 models. In return, OpenAI gained access to the computing resources of the corporation.

Later, the developments of the Californian company formed the basis of a number of products of the tech giant, including the GitHub Copilot AI coding assistant and the Azure OpenAI cloud service.

In February 2023, Microsoft integrated ChatGPT into the Bing search service. In addition, the tech giant plans to integrate the startup’s developments into other products like Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Recall that in February, Microsoft founder Bill Gates called generative AI the “major innovation” of our time.

That same month, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang compared the advent of ChatGPT to the creation of the iPhone and praised OpenAI’s achievements in democratizing computing.
