- Goerli upgrade will take place on March 14
- Two days later, on March 16, the developers will gather for another conference
- At the same time, they will name the exact date of deployment of the update in the main network.
- But that won’t happen until the first week of April.
After the successful deployment of Shanghai on the Sepolia testnet, everyone expected the mainnet to receive an update in the next few weeks. But the developers of Ethereum gave an unpleasant surprise by shifting the date to the beginning of April.
We previously detailed what will change on the Ethereum mainnet with the Shanghai update. The main innovation is the ability to withdraw blocked ETH “coins”.
The upgrade has successfully passed the test in Zhejiang and Sepolia. Next in line is the Goerli testnet. Update will be deployed on this network March 14th.
At the same time, the exact date of the fork in the mainnet is unknown. According to the developers, it will most likely pass in two weeks or even a month after the update is successfully installed on the Goerli testnet.
This means that the upgrade in the main network will take place in the first half of April at best. The exact reason for this is unknown. But it’s probably all about small bugs found when deploying Shanghai to Sepolia.
The developers talked about them during the All Core Devs call on March 2. It is not surprising that the team wants to thoroughly test and test new functionality.
“So imagine that the update in Goerli of the past is successful on the 14th. Two days later, on March 16, we agree to move forward with the main network. We need at least two weeks after that. I think the earliest possible date is early April,” project coordinator Tim Beiko.
The developers promise to name the exact date at the conference on March 16.
