Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) discovered in the Kiev region, an underground mining farm, the owners of which allegedly stole electricity in the amount of 3.5 million hryvnia (over $ 128,000).
According to the investigation, three local residents rented a hangar in the Buchansky district and placed ASIC miners in it.
“They connected to the electrical substation bypassing the meter, so they paid symbolically minimum amounts,” the department added.
Law enforcement officers have seized mining devices worth more than 6 million hryvnia (about $ 220,000 at the time of writing).
Criminal proceedings have been opened on the fact of fraud. To determine the exact amount of damage, investigators will conduct a computer-technical and economic examination of the equipment.
As a reminder, in early November, the SBU discovered a mining farm in the Cherkasy region that had stolen more than UAH 6 million worth of electricity.
Mining in Ukraine is not prohibited, if we are not talking about unauthorized connection to the power grid for this activity.
