OpenAI CEO Sam Altman was invited to dinner with members of the US House of Representatives from the Republican and Democratic parties. Writes about it nbc news.
The private event will take place on the evening of May 15th. It will be attended by 50 invited congressmen.
The dinner was hosted by GOP Conference Vice Chairman Mike Johnson and Democratic Caucus Vice President Ted Lew. Previously they submitted a resolution written by ChatGPT calling on Congress to regulate AI.
According to Liu, the purpose of the dinner is to “educate participants.”
Johnson described the task of the meeting in more detail. According to him, Congressmen realized the potential and risks of AI for humanity, and also heard calls for technology regulation.
“This bipartisan discussion with Mr. Altman will be a timely and important part of that process,” Johnson said.
The dinner is one of several speeches by the head of OpenAI on Capitol Hill in Washington. On May 16, he will testify for the first time before the Senate Subcommittee on Privacy and Technology.
“Artificial intelligence urgently needs rules and safeguards to deal with its enormous promise and pitfalls,” said subcommittee chairman Richard Blumenthal.
The hearing will be the starting point for the subcommittee to observe and highlight advanced algorithms and powerful AI technologies, he said.
Recall that in May, US Vice President Kamala Harris held a meeting with Altman and other leaders of tech giants, where they discussed the risks associated with AI.
In April, Elon Musk discussed artificial intelligence with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
