PleasrDAO created DAO for the purchase of the collection released by the founder of the Silk Road darknet marketplace Ross Ulbricht NFT…
In 2015, Ulbricht was convicted of operating the darknet market and other crimes and sentenced to two life sentences plus 40 years. The group Free Ross Ulbricht, organized by his mother, friends and supporters, is fighting for his release.
At the end of November, the traffic-driven Twitter account announced the release of the NFT collection. The Ross Ulbricht Genesis Collection includes 10 of his drawings, created in different periods of his life, and an animated video – a collaboration with NFT artist under the nickname LΞViT∆TE.
The group put the collection up for sale on the site SuperRare… The auction started on December 2. The proceeds are expected to go towards efforts to free Ulbricht and support other prisoners.
“I just get sketchy here in prison. [информацию]but it looks like what we are doing with these NFTs has a lot of support. I express my deep and heartfelt thanks to the community, ”wrote Ulbricht.
The PleasrDAO project team decided to take part in the auction and provide a collective opportunity for everyone through the created DAO.
“Ross Ulbricht founded Silk Road, introduced cryptocurrency to hundreds of thousands of people and was sentenced to disproportionate prison sentences. Today we are joining together in solidarity with Ross by raising funds to buy his Genesis Collection and protesting against the injustice of the American prison system, ”the statement said.
In case of winning the auction, all FreeRossDAO participants will become the owners of a share in NFT, according to the amount of the contribution. The organization proclaimed its goals:
- free Ross;
- promote prison reform;
- to acquaint the public with the work of Ulbricht.
For this activity, the FreeRossDAO organizers expect to use the funds that will remain in the treasury after the auction.
PleasrDAO contributed 240 ETH to it and promised further support. At the time of writing, FreeRossDAO has collected 849,177 ETH, and the current bid on the auction is 261 ETH. Bidding will end on December 8th.
In November, a group of crypto enthusiasts launched ConstitutionDAO as a DAO. The organization planned to buy a rare copy of the first edition of the US Constitution at Sotheby’s. During the week, the community raised more than $ 40 million in Ethereum, but the DAO was unable to win the auction. The buyer (according to the media – Citadel CEO Ken Griffin) paid $ 43.2 for the document along with fees.
An attempt by DuneDAO to purchase a rare print version of the never-filmed film “Dune” by Alejandro Jodorowski at Christie’s ended in failure. The DAO raised several times less than the final bid, and the lot was bought by one of the co-founders of the project.

According to media reports, former US President Donald Trump, before leaving the White House, considered the possibility of pardoning the founder of Silk Road, but Ulbricht was not included in the final list of 73 people.
