- It will take place on June 6th.
- Transactions will not be available for the period of the fork
Level 2 Solution Optimism will be holding an update to its main network called Bedrock on June 6th. It starts at 16:00 UTC (19:00 Kyiv time):
Therefore, during this period, the blockchain will be idle for 2 to 4 hours. Users will not be able to make transactions, make deposits or withdraw funds.
Node operators need to conduct a new node deployment for Bedrock. The project website has detailed instructions on all issues.
For the first time, the upcoming update became known last year. According to the developers, Bedrock will increase the security and resilience of the OP Mainnet bridge. It will also significantly reduce commissions.
“The Bedrock Update Will Reduce Protocol and Security Costs by 47% on the Optimism Mainnet”
Also, OP Labs emphasized that Bedrock is designed to have as little difference from Ethereum as possible.
“Ethereum equivalence + minimal complexity = less room for error, easier for ecosystem developers to contribute”
The Bedrock update is the next step towards Superchain, the concept of a super ecosystem. It will allow more new OP-based networks to be created.
