Opera has announced a partnership with Yat, a platform that allows emoji-based web address (URL) generation to integrate the emoji system into Opera browsers across all operating systems. To mark the announcement, the duo launched a seven non-fungible token (NFT) distribution event from legendary NFT artist Fvckrender at a minimum price of 2.89 Ether (ETH).
Tech startup Yata, an NFT project, allows internet users to own personalized emoji strings and use them as universal digital identifiers and wallet addresses. Opera recently released a beta version of its new cryptocurrency browser project.
The integration allows Opera users to browse the web by typing a string of emoji into the address bar instead of letters and words. According to Jörgen Arnesen, Opera’s executive vice president of mobile apps, Opera’s “emojiification”, as the company calls it, is a “new, easier and more fun” way to find and direct Yat pages to them.
“The partnership marks a major paradigm shift in how the Internet works. Thanks to the integration with Yat, Opera users can drop .com or even words in their links and use emoji to navigate to websites.”
Emoji embedded in web pages will automatically link to the corresponding “y.at/” page. Famous artists and celebrities were among the first to invest in and use their Yat emoji web addresses, simply referred to as Yats. For example, rapper Lil Wayne (y.at/alien-musical note), whose Yat page directs users to his record company’s website, and DJ Steve Aoki (y.at/birthday cake-musical note), who redirects users to his Web site.
To mark the launch of the integration, Yat and Opera are hosting a scavenger hunt for members to compete for seven commissioned Fvck Crystals NFTs from NFT artist Fvckrender.
