Nvidia graphics cards with limited hash rate are the most effective solution to the problem of device availability for gamers. About it stated CFO Colette Kress.

According to her, despite the attempts of miners to remove the hashrate limitation from LHR-video cards, you won’t be able to fully unlock their performance in Ethereum mining.

“Low hash rate cards only work with our Game Ready graphics drivers. In such a situation, large miners will not buy gaming video cards and will focus on purchasing specialized accelerators, ”Kress said.

The top manager emphasized that Nvidia does not have information about what part of the gaming video cards goes to the miners. However, she added that state bans on the mining of cryptocurrencies in a number of countries and the upcoming transition of Ethereum to the Proof-of-Stake algorithm play into the hands of gamers.

At the moment, real retail prices for GPUs significantly exceed MSRP… The company expects the situation with the availability of gaming devices to improve significantly by the second half of 2022.

Recall that in February, Nvidia halved the hashrate of the desktop GeForce RTX 3060 video card in order to orient the model to the needs of gamers.

As early as March, the performance limitations of the RTX 3060 were circumvented with an experimental Nvidia driver. The company confirmed the presence of the bug and removed the software from its website.

In May, hashrate blocking extended to GeForce RTX 3080, 3070 and 3060 Ti models.

According to media reports, in August, miners learned to return to RTX 30 series video cards up to 70% of the original performance… In October, the creators of the T-Rex miner bypassed the blocking of LHR video cards by simultaneous mining of two digital coins…

To meet the demand of miners, Nvidia has developed a line of CMP (Cryptocurrency Mining Processor) chips. The younger model from the CMP 30HX series was presented in March. Her hashrate is 26 MH / s.

In October, the senior video card of the CMP 170HX series went on sale. The adapter provides performance up to 164 MH / s when mining Ethereum.

According to the latest data, in July-September, sales of CMP-video cards fell by 60% compared to the previous quarter – from $ 266 million to $ 105 million.
