North Korean hacker group Lazarus is accused of stealing $625 million worth of cryptocurrency from the Ronin network (the blockchain that powers the Axie Infinity crypto game).
This statement was made by the US Department of the Treasury. However, the US updated the sanctions to include the address of the wallet that received the funds and linked it to the Lazarus group. This is reported The Verge.
This crypto wallet contains 148 thousand Ethereum coins for a total of $445 million. Less than a day ago, 3302.6 Ethereum was transferred from this wallet to another address, which corresponds to almost $10 million.
Thanks to the Etherscan cryptocurrency transaction tracking system, this address was flagged as being involved in the Ronin hack. Recall that on March 29, hackers committed one of the largest cryptocurrency thefts to date, stealing Ethereum in the amount of $625 million.
For reference. The Lazarus group, accused of the theft, is linked to the North Korean intelligence services and is responsible for 7 attacks last year.
The group gained notoriety for the 2014 Sony Pictures hack, a leak of The Interview comedy set in North Korea. She later used Trojan malware to steal millions from ATMs in Asia and Africa in 2018 and was also linked to the WannaCry ransomware.
