Linda Iaccarino, chair of global advertising and partnerships at NBCUniversal, may be the next CEO of Twitter after Elon Musk, according to major media reports.
According to Axios on May 12, citing people familiar with the situation, Iaccarino will be stepping down from her position at NBCUniversal, where she has worked for over 11 years. She is reportedly in talks to become the CEO of Twitter.
On May 11, Musk announced that he was stepping down as CEO to become the social network’s executive chairman and chief technology officer. He did not specifically name his replacement, providing no details other than the fact that she would be a woman and would start work in about six weeks.
Whoever assumes a key leadership role at Twitter will have a big impact on international discourse and digital assets. Iaccarino’s tweets include some praise for Musk’s interview performances and a discussion of how the social media platform handles tweets containing hate speech and calls for violence. In April, an NBCUniversal veteran interviewed Musk at a conference in Florida where they discussed Twitter politics.

During Musk’s tenure as CEO since taking over the platform in October 2022, he fired key members of the company’s executive team and phased out the platform’s outdated verification system in favor of various paid ticks. It also impacted the price of Dogecoin (DOGE) by briefly changing the Twitter logo to a memcoin dog symbol, and caused the price of Milady’s non-fungible tokens to jump after the NFT meme was posted.
