Slovak basketball player Luka Doncic has launched his digital alter ego Luk.AI, created using MetaHuman technology from Epic Games. Writes about it People.
A virtual version of Doncic was created using the Unreal Engine 5 MetaHuman tool. Also, the avatar was supplemented with neural network technologies trained on face animations from the real world based on capturing the performance of an athlete.
“It was like turning into a video game character, but there was a lot of new things with AI that I don’t understand yet,” Doncic shared.
According to him, the creation of the avatar took place in a special scanning studio, from where the data came to a team of engineers and artists. After that, they turned the collected materials into a digital person who looks and sounds like an athlete.
According to Doncic, Luk.AI will manage his account in TikTokwhere fans can interact with it.
“I’m excited because there’s a lot about this project that looks like the future. Fans can educate him about things and it’s also a way for me to share some of my passions outside of basketball – tricks, games, cars, music and fashion.”
Doncic added that Luk.AI is the product of his desire to “continue to find ways to have fun with fans, connect with them, and bring more games to the world.”
The avatar will wear their signature running shoes as well as a virtual Jumpman flight suit based on the real product. Luk.AI is also planning to be involved in a number of projects for children.
Recall that in August 2022, Nvidia introduced the Omniverse Avatar Cloud Engine toolkit for creating 3D models of people.
In October 2021, Meta showed digital avatars for virtual and augmented reality.
