In terms of functionality, the tool is similar to ChatGPT. It can provide summaries, answer questions, assist with writing, and generate code. However, the company claims that Claude is “less likely to produce harmful results” and is “easier to communicate with.”
Users can also customize the tone, personality, and behavior of the chatbot.
In addition, Claude does not have access to the Internet. According to the developers, it is designed to “be self-contained”.
Anthropic said its goal is to develop an AI assistant that is “helpful, honest, and harmless.”
In addition to launching a standard version of the chatbot, the startup announced Claude Instant, a cheaper, faster and lighter model compared to a full-featured counterpart.
The startup had already given access to the service to some companies months before its launch, including Notion, Quora and DuckDuckGo. The latter recently announced the DuckAssist search tool based on Anthropic and OpenAI technologies.
Application developers can use the APIs of both models. However, Cloude is currently available to a limited number of people on the waiting list.
Previously, Anthropic was backed by major technology companies. In February 2023, Google invested $300 million in the startup. In March, the company attracted another $300 million from the Spark Capital fund, and its valuation reached $4.1 billion.
Recall that on March 14, OpenAI introduced a large multimodal GPT-4 model. On the same day, the company integrated the algorithm into ChatGPT.
