In 2023, the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) and the surface transport of the capital will be equipped with the Face Pay face-to-face payment system. This was announced by Deputy Mayor for Transport Maxim Liksutov, writes “RIA News”.
“We want Face Pay to appear on the Moscow Central Circle this year,” he added.
According to Liksutov, today about 70,000 people have shared their biometrics, and 5,500 passengers use the service daily.
However, human rights activists urged to refrain from registering with Face Pay. According to a member HRC and AI expert Igor Ashmanov, at the beginning of 2022 his acquaintance uploaded biometric data in the application, and a couple of days later he was fined for riding the subway without a mask.
“He doesn’t know how to withdraw his face from this system now and who else got it,” the human rights activist added.
Metro press office refuted Ashmanov’s statement. According to them, the control over compliance with the mask regime in transport is carried out by the State Public Institution “Organizer of Transportation”, which does not have access to the Face Pay database.
Recall that in October the fare payment system using biometric data was launched at all stations of the Moscow metro.
In February, the authorities of the Russian capital announced their intention to install a new system for tracking citizens in the city subway.
