- It allows home mining and introduces a number of other concessions
- Also, the project cancels tough state laws of 2020
- The decision must now be approved by the State House.
Montana State Senate supported a bill that protects cryptominers and gives them a number of rights. The lobby group Satoshi Action Fund participated in its development.
So the new rules are:
- allowed to engage in home mining;
- prohibit miners from setting increased tariffs for utility services;
- It is forbidden to impose additional taxes on crypto-currency if it is used as a means of payment.
The project also deprives local authorities of some powers. So, they will not be able to retroactively close mining farms, even if a new zoning law comes out, which implies the cessation of mining in a particular region. And local officials will not be able to arbitrarily issue rules against mining.
The new document effectively overturns the Missoula County law passed 2 years ago. It required miners to invest in renewable energy assets or facilities in an amount equivalent to their energy consumption.
Now the decision is up to the State House. They must approve the bill in order for it to become legally binding.
It looks like the state of Montana is taking a cue from Texas. This state recently approved the legalization of bitcoin and benefits for miners. Texas will also launch a blockchain education course at one of the most prestigious universities. El Salvador recently announced the opening of a Bitcoin embassy here.
