Microsoft and Lockheed Martin concluded strategic partnership to develop next-generation technologies for the US Department of Defense.
The agreement covers four critical areas:
- “secret” cloud innovations;
- artificial intelligence, modeling and simulation;
- advanced means of communication;
- digital transformation.
Lockheed Martin has become the first private organization to gain access to Microsoft’s Azure Government Secret “secret” cloud. This will allow the military equipment manufacturer to modernize local systems, improve cybersecurity and accelerate the creation of automated workloads.
The companies also launched a two-year joint research and development program that will expand AI, modeling and simulation capabilities for the Pentagon.
Lockheed Martin will be able to use Microsoft technology to create an immersive environment that will allow military technology to be deployed and tested in virtual environments.
“Such capabilities could cut costs to the US Department of Defense and minimize risk to military personnel by providing a digital alternative to some military exercises,” the press release said.
In addition, the agreement expands the companies’ existing collaboration to provide advanced networks and secure 5G capabilities at a tactical level.
The digital transformation of processes should help increase the efficiency of Lockheed Martin as a whole, the statement said.
Recall that in April 2021, Microsoft won a tender to supply 120,000 augmented reality helmets for the US military. The deal amounted to $22 billion.
In August 2022, the US Army received the first 5,000 devices based on the Microsoft HoloLens 2 headset.
In October, the media reported on cases of illness among the military due to the use of helmets by the tech giant.
