Streaming platform Spotify has removed 7% of tracks created by AI music startup Boomy, amounting to “tens of thousands” of songs. Writes about it Financial Times.

The removals came after streaming services began receiving complaints of scams and clutter on the platforms. Music industry giant Universal Music Group (UMG) has warned streaming service providers of “suspicious activity” on Boomy tracks, according to FT sources.

As a result, the platform removed the AI songs due to suspicions of artificially boosting auditions using bots.

“Artificial streaming is a long-standing, industry-wide problem that Spotify is working to address on our service,” the company said.

Representatives for Boomy denied the accusations and spoke out “categorically against” any manipulation or cheating.

Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grange told investors:

“The explosive development of generative AI, if left unchecked, will increase the flow of unwanted content on platforms and create copyright problems.”

Recall that in April, UMG called on streaming services to remove music created by AI.

The label also demanded to close access to its catalog for developers of generative algorithms.

In the same month, singer Grimes supported AI creativity. She also offered a 50% royalty on “successful” music created using her voice.

In May, the singer released a program to imitate her vocals.
