In the first week after launch, a pilot version of a mobile wallet for using the digital yuan (e-CNY) topped the rankings of app stores in China. It is reported by SCMP.
App Store downloads have outperformed WeChat with built-in mobile payments, according to a study by App Annie. On Saturday, the e-CNY wallet gave way to the Kuaishou video service.
According to the publication, the digital yuan wallet also led the Xiaomi app store for a week.
As a reminder, on January 4, the Chinese authorities launched a mobile application for using e-CNY.
To download it, you need to physically be in one of the testing sites, including the area for the Winter Olympic Games.
The developer of the initiative is the Digital Currency Research Institute of the People’s Bank of China.
