- He could be 67 years old
- He died in 2014 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
- Some considered him Satoshi Nakamoto
Today, May 4, 2023, computer scientist and the world’s first publicly known bitcoiner Hal Finney could celebrate his 67th birthday.
Finney was the first person to publicly receive BTC from none other than Satoshi Nakamoto. During his lifetime, Hal explained that when Satoshi first released the software, he “grabbed it right away.”
“I think I was the first person other than Satoshi to launch BTC. I was mining block 70 something and I was the recipient of the first transaction when Satoshi sent me ten coins as a test.”

Also on January 11, 2009, he launched a cryptocurrency node on his computer. He announced this on his Twitter page, after which the phrase “Running bitcoin” became truly legendary.
Finney died on August 28, 2014 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as motor neurone disease. However, as an eternal technologist, he was cryopreserved by the Alcor Life Extension Foundation, and may be brought back to life in the future by a technological means.
