- The company promised to open source Ledger Recover before releasing an update
- Ledger scheduled a Twitter session to discuss this update
Hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger announced about delaying the release of a sensational feature called Recovery. This decision was made due to strong criticism of the crypto community. Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier reached out to customers and wrote that the company will not introduce a new feature until the code for it is released.
On his Twitter, he also shared his future plans:
In addition, the company also scheduled a Twitter Spaces session for 12:30 pm ET on Tuesday to discuss the new feature.
Last week, Ledger announced a new Ledger Recover feature that allows you to recover your secret phrase. Such an update immediately caused concern among users, they believe that this is another potential attack vector.
Many users wrote angry messages on social networks. They stated that they felt cheated by the company, which had previously stated that the private keys of Ledger wallets would never leave the device.
In his letter, Gauthier wrote that Ledger had learned a hard lesson, and parts of the code were already open to the public, and more would soon follow.
Today, former CEO Eric Larchevek added fuel to the fire. Instead of softening the situation, he said that governments can force the providers that store the keys, through the courts, to transfer these keys and seed phrases.
