State Duma Deputy Andrei Lugovoy threatened to imprison cryptocurrency miners for illegal connection to power grids. About it informs “Ribbon”.

According to him, in the event that mining is recognized as a legal type of activity, electric retail organizations must organize the issuance of permits for the connection of energy-intensive equipment.

“If [майнерам] will be denied, but they will still connect, which means they will violate both the administrative and criminal codes. Illegal miners will have to be imprisoned, ”Lugovoi said.

As an additional regulatory measure, the deputy proposed to impose income tax on the mining of cryptocurrencies.

“They produced bitcoin – then they look at what rate, calculate how much electricity they spent, what other costs they incurred (for salaries and other payments). Subtract it all – the profit is obtained, ”he added.

Recall that in November, representatives of several ministries of the Russian Federation supported the initiative to recognize mining as a type of entrepreneurial activity.

The head of the State Duma Committee on the Financial Market, Anatoly Aksakov, proposed to separately prescribe the taxation procedure for individuals and legal entities involved in the extraction of cryptocurrencies.

The Ministry of Energy, in turn, ruled out the use of a preferential tariff for bitcoin miners. So far, the regions have to seek recalculations through the courts.

Earlier, experts calculated that due to miners, household electricity consumption in a number of regions of the Russian Federation could grow 2.5 times this year.
