- They have suspended accepting new vacancies
- And they plan to introduce an AI replacement within 5 years
- Robots will be able to perform back office tasks
IBM CEO Arvind Krishna reported on the suspension of the recruitment of new employees for a number of vacancies. In the next few years, they plan to fill them with artificial intelligence. In particular, robots will successfully cope with the tasks of the “back office” if they do not involve direct communication with customers.
According to Krishna, AI solutions will be able to perform some of the tasks of HR (work with personnel):
“AI can automate more and more everyday tasks. For example, prepare letters or move employees between departments.
However, many HR functions remain in the back office that AI will not be able to perform for decades. For example, recruiting or evaluating their effectiveness”
Arvind Krishna believes that in 5 years, artificial intelligence will replace approximately 30% of positions that do not require work with clients. Now the IBM back office employs about 26,000 specialists. This means that 7.8 thousand people will be laid off.
Krishna took over as CEO in 2020. Now he is actively engaged in business optimization – for example, he sells not too marginal structures like Watson Health and cuts employees. The head of the company expects that by the end of 2024, such a strategy will save the brand up to $2 billion annually.
