Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang called ChatGPT “the iPhone moment” for AI and said the chatbot “democratized computing.”
Answering a question from a student at Berkeley University (California, USA), the businessman shared his thoughts on technology.
Jensen noted that the tool generated a lot of interest in a short period of time. According to him, this is just the beginning of much more.
“When was the last time we saw such a versatile technology that can solve problems and surprise people so often?” Huang said.
As examples, he cited the ability of a chatbot to compose poetry, fill in tables, execute SQL queries, and write code in Python.
“Of course, he can’t do much today, but someday in the future he will definitely be able to,” Huang added.
The businessman called the advent of ChatGPT “the moment of the iPhone” in the field of AI.
“This is the time when all the ideas in the field of mobile computing came together in a product that everyone just loves,” he says.
Huang tried to demonstrate the breadth of the technology’s application in everyday life. According to him, thanks to API the chatbot will be able to work with programs for processing data arrays, photo and video editors, tools for music and creativity.
The head of Nvidia also appreciated the popularity of the chatbot. According to him, 60 days, during which more than 100 million people managed to use ChatGPT, indicates the high speed of the spread of technologies.
Huang went even further and compared the emergence of conversational AI to the creation of browsers, Javascript, the iPhone or Spotify.
Speaking about the development of computer technology over the past 40 years, the businessman noted the increase in the complexity of programming. According to him, conversational AI models will help to cope with this.
“You just tell this thing to write a program for you, do something for you, automate something for you,” Huang added.
He concluded that the greatest achievement of OpenAI is the democratization of computing.
Recall that in February, Bill Gates called generative AI the “most important” innovation of our time.
In October 2022, Huang donated $50 million to the University of Oregon to establish a research and education center.
