  • The company serves 32 million people in 62 countries
  • Now customers will be able to buy coins only with debit cards

HSBC has banned the purchase of cryptocurrencies with credit cards. Twitter users started to report about it en masse. And leave angry comments about it:

“Soon you will absolutely not be able to buy cryptocurrency. Keep your crypto, stay inside. After all, if you leave the game, you may never be able to return. Weather the storm no matter what”

Soon, you will absolutely not be able to buy more crypto. #hodl your crypto, stay in. For once you’re out, you may never be able to get back in. Hold through the storm no matter what. This is HSBC already on the path to denying you… pic.twitter.com/VtnrhaptD

At the same time, the bank does not restrict crypto purchases through debit cards. This decision is dictated by FCA legislation.

Note that HSBC is one of the largest banks. It serves 32 million customers in 62 countries around the world.

The crypto community considers it unfair that credit cards can be safely used in gambling.

“You can go to your local bookmaker or any casino and bet/play as much as you want using their credit cards. They have no problem with it!

Bets = good

gambling = good

Cryptocurrency = Bad!

HSBC = horse shit!

However, you can go to the local betting shop or any casino and bet/gamble as much as you want using their credit cards, they have no issue with that!

Note that HSBC is not opposed to cryptocurrencies. Just a couple of weeks ago, they started looking for cryptocurrency specialists to open a new division. Probably, their ban is dictated by the requirements of the authorities.
