CEO Tim Cook said during conference call according to the results of the first quarter of fiscal year 2022, that Apple sees “great potential” in the metaverse sector and does not exclude investments in this direction.
Asked by Morgan Stanley’s Cathy Huberty about the prospect of the metaverse and Apple’s role in that market, Cook said:
“We have over 14,000 compatible ARKit apps in the App Store that provide incredible AR experiences today. We see great potential in this area and are investing accordingly.”
According to information Bloomberg, Apple is preparing to present its own VR / AR headset at the end of 2022. The device will be available for purchase next year. This product has been in development for seven years. The original release was planned for 2021, but was delayed due to software, overheating, and camera issues.
After these comments, during the pre-trading period on the US stock market, the corporation’s shares rose by almost 5%. Now the securities are trading near $166.
