In August 2022, Google will test the next generation of AR glasses in real conditions. About it informed Juston Payne, product manager for the augmented and virtual reality division of the tech giant.

“Real-world testing will allow us to better understand how these devices can help people in their daily lives,” he wrote.

The tests will help developers take into account factors such as weather and busy intersections that are difficult to recreate indoors, Payne says.

Testing will be limited to a few dozen Google employees and trusted partners. Prototypes will be equipped with cameras, microphones and in-lens displays. With their help, developers will appreciate the audio and visual experience for functions such as translation, transcription and navigation.

The Google AR glasses prototype presented at the I/O conference in May 2022. Data: Google.

However, the capabilities of the device will be limited. The glasses will not be able to take photos or videos, although Google will use image data to translate text and display directions.

Once the experience is complete, all sensitive data such as faces and license plates will be deleted. The company will only be able to use them for 30 days if additional debugging or analysis is needed.

Google unveiled next-generation augmented reality glasses at the I/O developer conference in May 2022. The first version of the device, which entered the market in 2014, was not successful.

New glasses Google expects to aim at the corporate market. The release date of the device was not announced by the company.

Recall that in July, AR-glasses for remote shopping were tested in one of the Japanese supermarkets 7-Eleven.

In May, Meta opened a physical store in California to showcase the possibilities of the Metaverse. Visitors can test out the company’s VR headsets, Ray-Ban Stories glasses, and Portal devices.
