According to a June 21 announcement, Immutable Games’ Gods Unchained card game is now available on the Epic Games Store and available to 230 million customers.
Gods Unchained is a collectible card game similar to Hearthstone or Magic: The Gathering Arena, but with cards that players can own and trade. Each card is represented by a non-fungible token (NFT) on the Immutable X level 2 Ethereum network. The game was released in June 2019, and over the next two years, its player base has grown to 80,000 weekly active players in January 2022.
The Epic Games Store is a digital game distribution platform similar to Steam or GOG.com. More than 230 million PC gamers are using Epic Games to find new games, according to the developer’s March 2022 Recap.
Daniel Paez, executive producer of Gods Unchained, considers the inclusion on the Epic Games roster to be a turning point in the game’s history. “It’s hard to overstate the significance of the launch of Gods Unchained on the Epic Games Store, one of the largest PC gaming platforms in the world,” he said. “We are thrilled to introduce our game to a completely new and truly huge audience of traditional PC gamers and CCG enthusiasts.”

The listing comes at a time when Web3’s publishers continue to resist hostile action from Steam, the world’s largest distributor of PC games. In October 2021, Steam announced that Web3 games were not welcome on its platform and also delisted Age of Rust due to the perks the game offered to owners of its NFTs.
In March, former members of the MetaMask team released a rival distribution platform called Hyperplay to counter Steam’s moves. Hyperplay provides access to the Epic Games and GOG.com stores through its interface and offers its own list of Web3 titles. On June 8, the Hyperplay team raised $12 million to further develop the platform and expand its reach.
