A former employee of the South Korean crypto exchange Coinone, by the name of Jung, admitted to accusations of taking a bribe. This is reported yonhap referring to lawyers.

In 2020, broker Hwang Mo paid 2 billion won (~$1.51 million) to the defendant in exchange for listing certain digital assets on the platform, according to the case file. In April 2023, authorities detained several other exchange employees on similar charges.

Among the coins was the Furier Coin cryptocurrency, which was traded exclusively on Coinone. Law enforcement officers linked the token with murder women in Seoul. According to investigators, the crime could have occurred on the basis of unsuccessful investments.

Chon’s accomplice, who appears in the case as “Mr. Ko”, also pleaded guilty.

“In principle, we recognize the fact of the prosecution, but since we did not have the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with all the evidence, after verification we will present the final conclusion,” the defendants’ lawyer added.

The next hearing is scheduled for June 15th.
