Flashbots co-founder Alex Obadiah has announced on Twitter that he is leaving the company of his own accord. In a farewell letter, he spoke about the vulnerability of Ethereum, the specifics and prospects of the company.
Note that Flashbots is aimed at reducing the negative consequences of the popularization of MEV in Ethereum. The organization entered the market in 2020, and Obadiah stood at its origins.
Yesterday, June 20, he publicly announced on his Twitter page that he was leaving the firm. Obadiah cited “personal reasons” as well as “differing opinions among members of the leadership” as an explanation for his departure.
To the post he attached screenshots of an email sent to Flashbots employees. In it, he celebrates the company’s achievements, but also highlights some “serious challenges” that lie ahead for both the organization itself and the Ethereum ecosystem.
In particular, Obadiah believes that the network remains highly censored. And Flashbots, designed to “fight evil”, can become it itself:
“Now we have become the “king of the hill”, and now we need to protect the system from ourselves, so as not to become the same Moloch that we are fighting.”
In the company, Obadiah was listed as a “founding manager.” He led the strategic division. In his farewell address, he stated that his values and experience would be useful “elsewhere”. Recall that in May, the number of nodes in the Ethereum network subject to OFAC censorship decreased to 27%. This is largely due to the activities of Flashbots.
