- Eric Larchevek gave a scandalous message
- It turns out that by court order, providers can transfer customer data
Recently, Ledger has caused a lot of criticism because of the new Ledger Recovery service. Instead of softening the situation, former CEO Eric Larchevek gave out new ambiguous message.
The businessman confirmed that governments can force providers who store keys to transfer these keys and seed phrases through the courts.
These revelations were voiced by Eric Larchevek on the famous Reddit forum. He criticizes the way the rollout of Ledger Recover was organized. Note that now the man does not work in the company.
Larchevek said that governments are almost 100% likely to be able to seize a user’s keys from one of the trusted custodians working with Ledger Recover. This news further strengthened the negative attitude towards the new service.
Larchevek also noted that nothing has really changed with the introduction of Ledger Recover. Previously, Ledger devices worked the same way:
“To use the product, you need to trust Ledger. If you treat the software manufacturer as an adversary, it won’t work at all.
Some “power users” got crazy and started writing things like “the government has taken over the Ledger”. But there is a cruel truth that many experts know. It is that nothing has changed. The security model here is the same as it was before the Ledger Recover service appeared.”
Yesterday, the ex-head of Coinbase said that Google and Apple could take away our cryptocurrencies at the behest of the authorities.
