Law enforcement agencies of Germany and Ukraine caught two key members of the DoppelPaymer ransomware group.
The operation was the result of a coordinated effort that also involved the Dutch police and the FBI.
German officers raided the home of a German citizen who played an important role in the DoppelPaymer gang. And our National Police carried out searches in two places: in Kyiv and Kharkov.
“Despite the current extremely difficult security situation in which Ukraine finds itself due to the Russian invasion, the local police carried out a brilliant operation” Europol website says.
Investigators arrested the suspect and seized electronic equipment. Now information technology specialists are examining the software for physical evidence.
Who are DoppelPaymer
This is a group of hackers, which supposedly consisted of five people. Criminals hacked company servers and infected them with malware. And then they demanded a ransom for the restoration of access. Usually it was a ransom in cryptocurrencies.
At the end of 2020, Foxconn Technology Group, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers, became one of the victims of DopplePaymer. The hackers stole the data of the North American branch of the company and demanded a ransom of more than 1800 BTC.
