- Ethereum Domain Name System Introduces New Web Domain Name .box Already
- The launch of the My.Box project is scheduled for September 2023
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) support web domain called .box and integrates it into browsers. It is planned that this name will be routable in web browsers like regular internet domains.
According to Nick Johnson, founder and lead developer of ENS, this project will be the first blockchain-based internet naming service to be available to Ethereum users and supported by the ENS protocol. A feature of My.Box is the ability to use domains for both cryptocurrencies and various Internet services, including email.
“We are happy to welcome .box as the first blockchain-native DNS routed top-level domain with ENS support. This is the so-called bridge between Web2 and Web3, which will be of key importance in the spread of decentralized technology among society. The use of ENS is part of the goal to make decentralized naming a simple and convenient standard.‘ Johnson said.
The registration and transfer of the .box domain will be done through the Ethereum blockchain. Ownership of associated NFTs will cover both the Domain Name System and names built on My.Box ENS.
The developers of My.Box explained that their project provides the ability to use both Ethereum names and regular web names at the same time by tokenizing the DNS domain during each registration. This means that each domain will have a cryptocurrency equivalent, which will encourage the use of names both on the traditional web and in the Ethereum ecosystem.
