- This is a dress rehearsal before being introduced to the main network
- Testers will check the option to withdraw staked ETH
The Ethereum Foundation announced the successful deployment of the Shanghai-Capella update to the Goerli testnet. They will conduct the final check, which will prepare the launch of the fork to the main network.
Recall that this event is expected in April this year, but the exact date is still unknown. The update will include Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 4895, which will allow validators to withdraw staked Ether.
So, the update for the Goerli testnet was deployed on block 162304 at 22:25 in the UTC time zone. But at the time of writing the news, the era has not yet ended. The reason was the low level of participation of validators – only 29%. Under normal participation conditions, the epoch should have ended at 10:38 UTC. If the test is successful, the update will be launched on the mainnet within the next month.
Ethereum developers have also planned three additional improvements aimed at optimizing gas costs for certain actions with the Shapella update.
Prior to Goerli, since February, developers have conducted several stages of public testing on the public testnets of Sepolia and Zhejiang. Goerli will be the third and final testnet that developers use to test the Shapella update.
