The ban on operations with cryptocurrencies in Russia will not lead to the destruction of high-tech industries. This is with reference to a statement by Professor of the Department of Corporate Finance and Corporate Governance of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Igor Lukasevich writes REGNUM.
In his opinion, the forecasts of the founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, that if the plans of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation are implemented, the development of blockchain technologies will slow down, are clearly exaggerated.
“Spectrum of application [блокчейна] has long gone beyond the narrow sphere of cryptocurrencies. Fintech and related technologies continue to actively develop and penetrate into other areas of economic activity. The demand for them will continue to grow in the coming years,” added Igor Lukasevich.
The professor added that the scope of DLT technologies is practically unlimited, so it is “hardly correct” to associate the development of the blockchain with cryptocurrencies.
Recall that on January 20, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation proposed to introduce a ban on the issuance, circulation and exchange of cryptocurrencies, as well as the organization of such operations in Russia. The regulator said that these digital assets (including stablecoins) claim to replace fiat money, but are used primarily in illegal activities.
Later, the regulator’s initiative was criticized by the creator of Telegram, Pavel Durov, and experts called it “a step towards the country’s hopelessly lagging behind.”
