Billy Marcus, the founder of Dogecoin (DOGE), apparently frustrated by the amount of “meme coin” spammers flooding his Twitter threads, blew the cryptocurrency shills with a series of tweets.
Marcus reveals how DOGE was originally created over eight years ago as a real meme that made fun of “stupid coins”. However, the creator points out that today’s meme coins are no longer memes. “They are made by people trying to get rich at the expense of other people trying to get rich,” Marcus wrote.
there are some witty elements in satire. jokes are funny. spamming ads, lying about who is involved in the project, making ridiculous promises, desperately trying to get Elon’s attention to promote you, etc. are not smart or funny. pic.twitter. com/cQ2YA6DyWJ — Shibetoshi Nakamoto (@BillyM2k) February 23, 2022
Marcus continued his tirade by mentioning Binance Smart Chain tokens. According to him, these cryptocurrencies “worsened the Internet in every way.” He also stressed that he doesn’t care if people want to gamble, but urged that spam ads be kept out of their threads. Finally, he noted that this token advertisement “makes the Internet less fun.”
It’s right here. Tired of seeing people advertise it to others as if they were missing out on a chance to get rich. This is disgusting – 2-1AgainstTheWorld (@Tuanskiyi1) February 23, 2022
While the creator of DOGE made his point very clear, that didn’t stop memecoin spammers from flooding the thread with memecoin ads.

Dogecoin began to enter the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization back in January 2021. At the time of writing, DOGE is trading at $0.11 per token, maintaining its spot in the top nine cryptocurrencies by market cap despite a 17% drop on the day, according to Cointelegraph Markets Pro.
In a recent discussion on meme coins, one of the experts at Cointelegraph chose DOGE as a token that could give a good return on investment in 2022, citing well-known supporters Elon Musk and Mark Cuban.
