Controversial co-founder of Terraform Labs Do Kwon released from prison to trial after posting a bail of $436,000. This was reported by the Montenegrin website Pobjeda. Together with him, accomplice Han Chang Jun was released.
Both defendants explained to the court their financial situation, indicating that they have property worth several million. The specified sum was paid by their wives. In addition, they promised that they would not hide until the end of the criminal proceedings, that they would regularly respond to subpoenas and would be at the address provided by the defense counsel.
The court took into account the gravity of the criminal offense, the personal and family circumstances of the defendants, their property status, as well as the property status of the persons who paid bail. As a result, the possibility of losing the $436,000 bail was found to be strong enough to discourage defendants from fleeing. In addition, the court took into account that during the procedure it is necessary to check the authenticity of travel documents and identity cards allegedly issued by the competent authority of Belgium.
In the event of an escape or violation by the accused of the chosen measure, the amount paid as bail is credited to a special section of the estimate for the work of the courts.
It was reported that if found guilty, Kwon could face an unprecedented sentence in South Korea, namely 40 years in prison.
