- Thus, the platform is trying to distance itself from the “gaming” counterparts
- At the same time, the oldest users will be able to choose the best unique nicknames
Discord is gradually moving away from the purely “gaming” concept. Area announced about changing the nicknames of users, from which the numerical suffix will disappear.

As you can see from the image above, the 4-digit combination will be removed from usernames. Now each user whose nickname has such a suffix must come up with a different unique account identifier.
It will also have an “@” sign in front of it, making Discord look like Telegram, for example. In addition, the user can select a non-unique display name, which can also include letters, numbers, special characters, and emoticons.
Let’s take an example. The user with the nickname “User1234” will have to change the name of his account, say to “UserGameName”, but at the same time on the account page he can leave “User” or “User (^^)”.
Numeric suffixes are a hallmark of “gaming” clients and sites. In particular, this concept is used in Steam, Battle.net and Xbox.
There are no exact dates in the announcement. Users are not forced to change nicknames all at once. This process will take place gradually over the next few weeks.
In this case, priority will be given to old users. Those who have been on the platform for a long time will be among the first to take the best nicknames.

The user’s old nickname, that is, with a numerical suffix, will still work as a direct link to the user’s page. This function will be retained even after the transition to the new concept is completed.
Earlier, we talked about how a unique number was bought at the Telegram auction for $720,000. More details at the link.
