DeFi platform WonderFi Technologies has acquired Canadian cryptocurrency exchange Coinberry. About it said in a press release.
“This purchase further solidifies WonderFi as the leading cryptocurrency company in Canada and […] creates an excellent basis for our expansion into global markets,” wrote WonderFi CEO Ben Samar.
According to the publication CoinDeskThe deal amounted to $30 million.
Recall that the company announced the takeover a week after information about listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
Before the purchase, the DeFi platform reduced staff by 20%. Similar measures were taken by the Bitbuy crypto exchange, which WonderFi bought in January. According to media reports, layoffs are dictated by cost optimization.
In August 2021, Coinberry became one of the regulated crypto exchanges that the Ontario Securities Commission forbidden to work with the USDT stablecoin from Tether.
