On February 15, several Ukrainian banks and government resources were subjected to a DDoS attack. It was called the largest in the history of the country. This information was reported by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development Mikhail Fedorov at briefingabout the incident.
According to Viktor Zhora, Deputy Head of the State Special Communications Service for Digital Development, Transformation and Digitalization, the attack continues even now, but specialists are successfully coping with it.
Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Serhiy Demedyuk says that no financial losses as a result of the incident were recorded. In addition, there is no evidence of any data leaks.
Among other things, interruptions in the operation of sites contributed to the additional load on the resources on the part of the citizens themselves, who, after the news about the disruption of the services, massively entered bank applications and other attacked resources.
Thanks to the prompt response of the CERT-UA response team, several government sites were disabled to counteract the spread of damage from the actions of hackers – they did not work precisely because of this, Zhora emphasized.
According to the head of the security department of the National Bank, Igor Konovalov, the systems of Privatbank and Oschadbank are currently operating normally, despite the ongoing attack.
Experts recorded the “trace of foreign intelligence services.”
“The cost of such an attack is millions of dollars: an individual hacker or group cannot afford to spend that kind of money. Such attacks are carried out by states through special services or specially created infrastructure, ”said Ilya Vityuk, head of the SBU cybersecurity department.
