The former head of the Meta payments division, David Markus, said that bitcoin will exist in 20 years, and over time, the relevance of the asset will only increase. According to him, the position of Ethereum cannot be judged so unambiguously.
#Bitcoin is truly leaderless, censorship resistant, and has much greater network effects. In essence, it’s unique and cannot ever be replicated. Its creation truly was the Big Bang event of crypto. 2/2

“It became clear to me that bitcoin is the only asset and L1 network that will continue to exist in 20+ years with increasing relevance over time. The second place (for a different use case) is still undefined. So far, Ethereum is leading, but Solana and others are stepping on its heels, ”he wrote.
Markus noted the decentralization of digital gold, its resistance to censorship and the strong network effect inherent in the asset. He emphasized that the creation of bitcoin “has become akin to a Big Bang for cryptocurrencies.”
In the thread eToro founder Yoni Assia jokedthat Marcus was “bitten by a bitcoin bug”. To which the ex-head of Diem replied:
“It happened a long time ago. However, the infection rate only increases with time.”
Markus is indeed a longtime supporter of the first cryptocurrency. Back in 2019, he described himself as a “big bitcoin fan” and stated that he considers the asset to be digital gold.

Recall that in December 2021, Markus announced his departure from Meta, without specifying the reasons for the resignation and keeping silent about future plans.
