According to the agency, Li, appointed as the nominal owner of ViMarket, at the direction of Chandran, transferred the funds received to the personal accounts of the organizers of the scheme. From more than 10,000 victims, the attackers spent millions of dollars on luxury cars and real estate.
Lee was charged with conspiracy, mail and electronic fraud, and money transactions with criminally obtained property. He faces up to 30 years in prison on the combined charges.
Chandran was arrested in June 2022 for alleged involvement in the scheme. Another co-conspirator, Michael Glaspie, who sold investments at CoinDeal, accepted one count of wire fraud in February 2023. The final verdict will be handed down on June 16.
