We strive to inform readers not only about events in the bitcoin industry, but also to talk about what is happening in related technological areas – cybersecurity and in the world of artificial intelligence (AI).

Cryplogger AI collected the most important news from the world of AI over the past week.

  • Google has allowed users to request that personal information be removed from search results.
  • Meta introduced a large language model with 175 billion open source parameters.
  • PrivatBank has launched a voice biometrics function for quick authorization when contacting a hotline.
  • Robomobile broke the world speed record among drones.
  • Boston Dynamics has updated the Spot robots.
  • The most important AI deals of the last week.

Google allows users to remove personal information from search results

Google has made it possible for users delete personal information from search results.

According to the updated privacy policy of the service, at the request of the client, the system will stop showing certain web pages containing his personal data. Google may remove:

  • sensitive government identification data, including a social security number;
  • Bank account number;
  • credit card number;
  • handwritten signature images;
  • photo of identification documents;
  • medical records;
  • personal contact information, including address, phone number and email;
  • login information for any account.

Google also promised to remove personal intimate photos, pornographic deepfakes and images with a demonstration of violence.

Company Meta published language model code with 175 billion OPT-175B parameters. neural network available AI researchers on request for non-commercial use.

The company said it is sharing an algorithm trained on public data to help the community understand how the technology works. Meta did not rule out that scientists will be able to rid the models of toxicity and bias.

The researchers trained the OPT-175B neural network using 992 Nvidia 80GB A100 GPUs, achieving a performance of 147 TFLOPS per chip. According to Meta, the researchers don’t need to build the algorithm and train it from scratch as the tech giant is providing the code to deploy it on 16 Nvidia V100 GPUs.

The company also opened access to small pre-trained models with up to 66 billion parameters for everyone.

Volkswagen partners with Qualcomm for drones

Volkswagen Group concluded years of collaboration with chipmaker Qualcomm to develop self-driving driving technology.

There are no details of the deal with Qualcomm. It is known that the company will supply systems-on-a-chip (SoC) for the Cariad platform, providing Level 4 autonomous driving. Volkswagen is integrating processors into the on-board computers of all its car brands.

The automaker also said it is already in talks with Israeli specialist chip supplier Mobileye.

PrivatBank launches voice biometrics technology

Ukrainian bank “PrivatBank” launched voice authentication system for customers who contacted the support service by phone.

To use the function, the user needs to create a “cast” of the voice through the Privat24 application. After that, with each next call to the hotline, the algorithm will be able to “quickly” recognize the client.

After connecting “voice biometrics” users will not have to answer additional security questions, the bank said.

Study: YouTube Kids Algorithms Promote Drugs and Weapons Content

The Tech Transparency Project found that YouTube Kids’ algorithms offer kids videos about weight loss, skin whitening, drug subculture and firearms.

The researchers registered three accounts for one of the age groups. Videos for “younger kids” included a Breaking Bad-themed cooking show and the process of building a Minecraft motorhome “where crystal meth is brewed.”

The platform also showed “younger children” the rating of shock absorber butt pads that protect shooters from the recoil of weapons, and “older children” – instructions for assembling a shelf with a hidden compartment for a pistol.

With automated filters, people moderation, and parent feedback, YouTube Kids videos are family-friendly, the company said, but “no system is perfect.” After review, the developers have removed or set age limits for tagged videos in the Kids app.

Google fired AI researcher over company criticism

Google fired another artificial intelligence researcher due to criticism of the work of the tech giant.

According to The New York Times, in March 2022, the company suspended computer scientist Satrajit Chatterjee for challenging a paper that algorithms could design chips more efficiently than humans.

Representatives of Google declined to comment on the dismissal, but indicated that it happened “for a good reason.” The original article was “thoroughly reviewed” and peer-reviewed, and the contesting paper “did not meet company standards,” they added.

Google previously suspended two leading researchers in the ethics of artificial intelligence, Timnit Gebru and Margaret Mitchell, prompting a series of other voluntary layoffs.

Robocar set a new speed record among drones

The drone of the PoliMOVE team of the Milan Polytechnic Institute broke the world speed record among robocars, accelerating to 309.3 km / h.

The car was driving on a straight runway on the grounds of the Kennedy Space Center. Robocar reached 309.3 km/h per 1 km on two consecutive attempts in opposite directions to eliminate the influence of the wind.

Meta uses AI to design green concrete

Company Meta will build new data centers for the metaverse of “green” concrete, created with the help of AI. The material was formulated to reduce carbon emissions by 40% and exceed strength requirements.

The tech giant, together with scientists from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, MIT and IBM, trained the model on a dataset that contains 1,000 concrete formulas and structural properties, including 7 and 28 day compressive strength data. The team also determined the carbon footprint of samples of the resulting concrete mix.

The researchers then selected the five “most promising” options and iteratively refined them. As a result, they came up with a formula in which 50% of the cement was replaced by fly ash and slag.

Meta has teamed up with concrete supplier Ozinga to refine the mix and test it in the real world.

Boston Dynamics has updated Spot robots

Boston Dynamics showed Spot the robo-dog at the factory in a new No Time To Dance video.

In the video, the quadrupedal device performs a number of tasks in an industrial setting. The robot takes sensor readings, scans equipment with an infrared camera, generates work orders for employees, and dances.

Boston Dynamics also showed off some updates to the robops.

Among the innovations:

  • five stereo cameras capturing full color images and delivering enhanced depth of field data;
  • tablet controller with larger screen and longer battery life;
  • a new system-on-a-chip to accelerate on-device AI processing and 5G compatibility.

Scientists have developed an algorithm to identify actions in the video

Engineers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed AI algorithm for identifying actions in videos and marking them without human assistance.

The model learns to represent data by capturing concepts common to visual and audio modalities. The system will determine that the crying baby in the video is related to the spoken word “cry” in the audio clip.

Scientists have used learning featured. The algorithm receives raw information, including videos and their corresponding text captions, and encodes it, extracting features of objects and actions from the video.

The AI then displays the data in the view space. The model groups similar information together as separate points, expressing each in a separate word. The researchers limited the model to 1,000 words for labeling vectors.

The method also uses the common representation space. This allows the algorithm to learn the relationship between a video of a person juggling and an audio recording of the words “juggles”.

Demonstration of the algorithm. Data: MIT.

The most important AI deals of the last week

From May 1 to May 7, 2022, AI startups raised over $720 million. Here are the most interesting deals.

  • Anthropic collected $580 million for research to make AI more reliable and understandable.
